This quote explains one of the lessons Jean, the main character, learns through the first 4 chapters. After she talks to her dad, Atticus, she realizes that not everyone's attentions are bad; one cannot judge someone based off what they hear, because what people say is often misleading.
Although I agree with you, that we cannot judge someone based off of what you hear, and it could be misleading. Sometimes what you over hear can help you realize the real qualities of the person, and help develop their character.
ReplyDeleteYes, sometimes what you hear can help you improve your understanding about someone, but we should not let it change our overall opinion on the person. We do not have insight on their lives so what they did might be wrong, but we do not know what pushed them to doing it. Thus, what you said about developing a character from what society says does not always work, because we do not know that person, and listening to what others have to say about someone can sometimes put us into a tight area.

DeleteYes we do not know that person but if it is your own father, I think that it is enough proof. He might have been forced, but he could always inform her of the situations he is getting himself into.
